It's a group chat where nobody knows who anyone is. You message a bot, the bot passes it to everyone else, and all they ever see is your handle. Not your number. Not your name. Not even if they're the one running it.

01 How it works

One room, one bot in the middle, and no real names anywhere in it.

You get a handle

First time you message the bot it hands you a random five-letter name. Something like rotin, or pipoz. From then on, that's who you are.

The bot does the passing

You type, it forwards. Everyone sees your handle and what you said. Tag someone with @theirhandle, or hit reply and it threads the way you'd expect.

Nothing to install

It rides on Signal, which you've already got. Same app, same encryption, no new account to make and nothing extra on your phone.

Someone's watching the door

Admins and mods can throw out anyone who wrecks the place. They still can't see your number or your name. That isn't a setting, it's just how it's built.

02 The honest version

What you actually get, and where it stops.

Your number stays yours

The bot can reach you without handing your number to anyone in the room. It can't work backwards from a handle to a person either. That's rather the point.

Messages don't stick around

Everything's set to disappear off every phone after a week. What nobody can stop is someone screenshotting it first. Any app that tells you otherwise is lying.

Text only, on purpose

Photos and files never get passed along. A picture quietly carries your location, your device, the time you took it. One upload can undo the whole thing.

Don't take our word for it

Send /privacy in the room and the bot tells you exactly what it's keeping on you and how long it keeps it. It's a short list.

03 Joining, step by step

  1. Open Signal.
  2. Tap the search bar and look up HackerRelay.1337.
  3. Send it one word: join
  4. It sends your handle back. Start talking. /help lists the rest.
